Petido

Pet Adopt App

Petido is a mobile app that helps and supports animal adoption and non-profit shelters decicated to improving the lives of homeless animals. With adoption, you will change a homeless animals whole world.

Challenge

Millions of animals are currently in shelter and foster homes awating for adoption. The task was to design an experiences that would help connect people looking for a new pet and help someone looking to adopt the best possible pets for their lifestyle considerin factors which include breed, gender, age, temperament, and health status.

Emphatize Phase

User Research

Started with some brainstorming to explore the topic of the design exercise. After the research, it was clear that people who wanted to adopt animals preferred searching for them online first to get a wide variety of different kinds and get information on them. Those users also loved the importance of having a quick and convenient way to schedule an appoinment with a sheter, so they could visit pet they like.

To understanding more about the users, I conducted user interviews with some people, then turned the interviews into Affinity Mapping to better understand the target user and their needs. A primary user group identified through research where the people were a pet lovers and have pets.

User Persona

After I conducted interviews with some people and did the ‘Affinity Mapping’, I became more familiar with the behavior of the target audience of this application. Then I created 2 fictional personas  in order to help me watch the steps users take to accomplish their goals and need, and also to help me to see the opportunity that I can do to improve a better and optimized user experience.

Paper Wireframe Until Lofi Prototype

These are the initial sketches I started with paper wireframe to determine the overall layout at the beginning and start with the features that will be on the homepage and the category. Based on the same sketches from paper wireframe, I immediately created a complete digital wireframe based on user research, before entering usability testing, I ensured to checklist first all the information and goals that can overcome the user's pain points.

Takeways

Petido made me realize just how difficult it can be to produce an application that you know very little about. For an application that intends to be an all-in-one solution, user interviews could have told me more about our target users priorities for a pet adoption app.

I was a bit nervous to start since I wouldn't have a detailed design brief or an existing design to reference, but I realized that I had a strong understanding of the use context and user goals, since I was designing an app to solve a problem that I was personally facing. I was able to gain my bearings with that in mind, and bolstered my understanding and vision through user flow diagramming. I ended up having a lot of fun working on Petido and relished in the creative freedom I had in designing something completely new. Feel free to play around in the prototype below and let me know what you think.
